Day Trip to Boston in the Summer

Boston is a wonderful city to visit. It offers a lot of diverse things to do. During our trip we went on the Duck Tours, took a stroll through Quincy Market, visited the Farmer’s Market, stopped in a local cheese shop, went over the famous Zakim bridge, and took a carriage ride.

You can’t just go to Boston for a one-day trip. If you live in New England you will want to put this on your day trip schedule and go back several times during the course of the year. There are different events happening depending on the time of year.

Quincy Market is the perfect place to start your day trip. It doesn’t matter whether you are a tourist, a local or just out of town, Quincy Market is a favorite place to go. There are all kinds of great shops and food galore. My favorite is the hall of food. You can get everything from Chinese, Italian, Greek, American, and pastries and desserts too. The prices are very reasonable. If you don’t want to eat there, you will find restaurants all around the perimeter. Just ask a local for their suggestion.

You just have to go on a Duck Tour just once in your life. It is so much fun. Each driver has been picked to be fun and entertaining. We had a guy named Nor who looked like a Greek god. The duck tour takes you through the streets of Boston, back into the neighbors you would never visit. Once you get to the shore it dives right in and becomes a boat. You will get to see Boston up close and personal and you will pass the famous Zakim Bunker Hill bridge.

Go off the beaten path just a little bit into the Back Bay area and walk through the Farmer’s Market. The locals swear by this market going everyday. Walk a little further and you are in Northend where some of the best Italian restaurants are located. Around every corner you will find a little, local shop. We stopped into a local cheese shop. Take in the aroma and you will feel like you are at home.

While carriage rides are always considered something a tourist would do, this is also something we suggest you do just once. You get a special viewpoint of any city when you ride through the streets high on top of a carriage pulled by horse. These carriages are beautiful and decorated with fresh flowers.

Parking can be a bear when you are in any city and Boston is no exception. It will cost you around $20 for the day to park directly in the city. If you want to go form one place to another then take the T. You can park right outside of the city and take the T into the city to save yourself some money.
